Medical Abortion vs Surgical Procedure

Medical Abortion (Up to 9 Weeks)

This method uses prescribed medication to end a pregnancy. It’s non-invasive and can be done at home with medical supervision. We provide full consultations and follow-up care to ensure the process is safe and well-managed.

Surgical Abortion (Varies by Gestation)

We offer two types of surgical abortion, depending on how far the pregnancy is:

  • Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA) – A gentle suction procedure used in early pregnancy to remove pregnancy tissue.

  • Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) – A more advanced procedure performed in later stages by a trained doctor in a medical setting.

For pregnancies between 16–20 weeks, we use a combination of medical abortion and MVA:

  • Mifepristone is given to stop the pregnancy and prepare the uterus over 24 hours.

  • After that, additional medication is used to induce labour and safely expel the fetus.

  • This method has shown to be one of the safest, with minimal risks when done under medical care

FAQs

Medical Termination of Pregnancy

A medical termination is a safe and effective procedure where medication is used to end an early pregnancy. We provide clear, compassionate care throughout the process, ensuring your comfort and wellbeing.

  •  A medical termination involves two medications: one to stop the pregnancy, and another to help expel the pregnancy tissue. You’ll receive guidance and support at every stage, both before and after the procedure
  • Yes, medical termination is a safe procedure when conducted by trained healthcare professionals. We ensure you have all the information you need and are supported throughout the process.

After the procedure, you may experience some bleeding or cramping, similar to a heavy period. You’ll be given aftercare instructions, and we’ll schedule follow-up appointments to ensure your recovery is on track.

  •  The process can take a few days. After taking the first medication, you may go home, and the second medication is taken 24–48 hours later. We’re here to support you every step of the way, with a follow-up appointment to check your recovery.

FAQs

Surgical Abortion

A surgical abortion is a medical procedure that ends a pregnancy by removing the pregnancy tissue from the uterus. It is done by a trained healthcare professional in a clinic or hospital setting

Some women feel cramping and discomfort, similar to strong period pains. Pain is usually manageable with local anaesthetic and pain medicine. Everyone’s experience is different — some feel mild cramps, while others may feel stronger pain.

Modern surgical abortion, when done by trained professionals, is very safe. Death is extremely rare and usually linked to unsafe abortions or untreated complications.

When done by a qualified professional, the risk is very low. Rare complications include infection, perforation, or scarring of the uterus, but these are uncommon.

No, abortion does not cause infertility if performed safely. Most women can fall pregnant again after recovery

The most common method is Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA): A gentle suction is used to remove the pregnancy tissue and it is quick and does not require stitches.

The actual procedure usually takes 10–15 minutes. You may stay in the clinic for a few hours afterwards for monitoring

Medical abortion (using tablets) is non-invasive and can be done at home under medical guidance (best up to 9 weeks). Surgical abortion is quicker, completed in one visit, and often chosen for later pregnancies or if medical abortion is not suitable. The best method depends on your pregnancy stage and personal preference.
